The government cracked down on headshops last night by finally taking action using anti-drugs legislation and a newly-drafted Bill from the Department of Justice. The move caused existing traders to close down ranks and remove all the banned substances. Fine Gael (FG) Justice Spokesperson, Charlie Flanagan and Aisling International Director, Maire Byrne discussed the escalation and acceptance of drug culture within our society.
Cllr Richard Boyd Barrett from People Before Profit (pictured above) explained why he wanted the march to be the first step in campaigning against Government policies which he said had caused the economic crisis. Protestors including Irish Times journalist, Fintan O’ Toole took to the streets against the government that chose to bail out banks instead of the people.

The cleric spoke of his fears of “strong forces” in the Catholic Church in Ireland “which would prefer that the truth did not emerge”.

The news that EU Finance ministers have finally agreed a €750bn bailout plan to prevent the Greek debt crisis from spreading to other countries.€500bn will be taken from the EU, while up to €250bn will be contributed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Chief Economist at Ulster Bank R.O.I. Simon Barry talked Lynsey through how the bailout will affect the Irish taxpayer.
