McConalogue Opposes Move To Increase Amount Of Cap Payment Linked To Eco Schemes

The Agriculture Minister says he will resist attempts to further link EU farm payments to eco-friendly schemes.

The bloc is negotiating the new Common Agricultural Policy, which will take effect in 2023.
Ireland has agreed to allow 20 per cent of CAP payments to be ring-fenced for environmental farm practices.
But Charlie McConalogue says he told other European agriculture ministers he's against increasing that to 30 per cent.
