An infectious diseases expert says it’s unlikely that Ireland will be able to get covid-19 cases lower than they are now.
The five-day average of new cases has increased by 26 percent in the past week.
429 new cases were reported yesterday, along with one additional death. 78 per cent of those new cases are under the age of 45.
Dr Jack Lambert is a Professor of Medicine and Infectious Diseases at UCD. He says the current figures are likely to remain similar for the foreseeable future.
He also says the virus seems to be more contagious than it was last year:
