Portugal Uncovered why Porto should be your next port of call

11 minutes | Saturday, 14 August 2021

This week I was broadcasting live from the beautiful coastal city of Porto in Portugal.

Flying here was quick and easy with Ryanair direct from Dublin and after a quick twenty minute taxi ride, I was checked into my stylish bohemian bolthole at Selina, the perfect place to channel your inner digital nomad. The free walking tour that Selina offers was a great way to find my bearings and meet like minded travellers.

Porto for me is the real Portugal, with unexpected delights around every corner. This is the perfect city for ambient strolls, stunning architecture with the famous blue tiles evident everywhere you look. Amazing food and wines to be enjoyed here, try Casa de Lo for a memorable dinner and Oporto Bakery for breakfast and delicious snacks. Beware of "the Franchesina" a must try but definitely on an empty tummy. Don't miss a visit to WOW - World of Wines with it's amazing wine museums and history - just a short river taxi to Gaia - www.wow.pt - If you like shopping bring an empty suitcase and grab an UBER out to Norteshopping.pt and here you'll also "wow" at the prices of well known brands. For a day at the beach grab the local bus or an UBER to Matosinhos where you can also have delicious fresh seafood in a beach bar or fine dining restaurant.

You can't visit Porto without discovering it's wondrous array of bridges best seen in my opinion on the Six Bridges Cruise at just €15 (I booked at Selina) - On the river Duoro, you follow in the wake of the old wine merchants....

With the Ryanair flights you can do Thursday to Monday which is perfect for a first visit... For more info visit www.visitporto.travel or www.visitportugal.com - Selina.com and ryanair.com
