Tenerife has shed its image of being a little tacky and today has morphed into a sophisticated destination happy to hold its own in the company of high spenders, gastronomes and seasoned golfers. On Travel Talk on Saturday Live with Carol Dooley this morning just after 11.30 on Sunshine 106.8 we visit Tenerife.
This tropical island just off the coast of West Africa has shed its image of being a little tacky and today has morphed into a sophisticated destination happy to hold its own in the company of high spenders, gastronomes and seasoned golfers. That’s not to say that Tenerife doesn't still do all the old favourites very well, today they just percolate quietly in the background. Tenerife has a vibrant restaurant scene, chic beach clubs and boutique boltholes providing windows to the previously bypassed and greener side of the island. If you’ve not been for a while, certainly take in the usual suspects of beaches, pools and outdoors living but also make sure you allow time to journey from the resort areas to picnic in pine-infused forests, soak up the art, culture and iconic architecture of Santa Cruz, and find peace and solace along the paved coastal pathways on the quieter west coast with breathtaking views of the Los Gigantes cliffs. Stargazing is a must and this is where I first saw the milky way in all its' splendour. A nice place to stay is the Green Garden Resort with its lovely pools and gardens and right beside a green area and golf course and there's a nice shopping mall just a few minutes walk.
