The Sunday Show this week visited Barberstown Castle in Co. Kildare where we chatted to MD Ted Robinson. Dating from the late 13th Century, Barberstown Castle has sat in the Irish landscape for over 730 years. Built in 1288, by Nicholas Barby (who gives his name to the castle) Barberstown Castle, is nestled in the rich fertile plains of north Kildare. This property is one of the first great Irish country houses to display its splendour to the outside world when it opened as a small guesthouse in 1971.
It was a former home of the acclaimed musician Mr. Eric Clapton from 1979 - 1987 where famous rock stars came to stay and played music into the early hours in our Green Room & Castle Keep. The Castle is now privately owned & managed and has been carefully upgraded from a 10 bedroom property to a 58 Bedroom Failte Ireland Approved Hotel. It has maintained the elegance of design over eight Centuries by sympathetically blending its Victorian and Elizabethan extensions with the original Medieval Castle Keep of 1288.
A proud member of the Historic Hotels of Europe and Ireland's Blue Book.
