Myself and the Travel expert Sarah Slattery recently stayed at Kenmare House in Killarney. Designed with an eye for period romance combined with all the classic comforts of a contemporary country home, this Self-Catering House is perfect for large family vacations, golf holidays and special occasions. The house was recently refurbished and now stands as a stately residence nestled in the secluded private woodlands of the Killarney National Park. The Self-Catering Country Home sleeps up to 14 guests, providing a collection of newly refurbished accommodation options encompassing two King Rooms, one Junior King, and a variety of Superior Double and Single Room options to suit your party’s needs. It is a stunning property.
Filled with spacious and stylish living spaces and ample sleeping quarters, it’s the perfect place to gather for large family and golfing groups, wedding parties and special occasions. Built in 1969 as the residence of Beatrice Grosvenor CBE, Kenmare House has a long labyrinthine legacy dating back centuries to the arrival of the Browne Family in Killarney in the 1500s. Along with the survival of Killarney and Knockreer House, it stands today as an enduring symbol of a family who were greatly influential in shaping the Killarney we all know and love today. Here we have provided a historic timeline of the House’s history but a more in-depth analysis as well as an intimate History Tour can be organised during your stay on request.
Unwind in the blue hues of its opulent Drawing Room, browse the old-worldly shelves of the original Library or simply take a seat on the Patio and drink in the sweet country air while looking out onto the magnificent views of the MacGillycuddy Reeks.
Cook up a storm in the superb ambience of the bespoke Kitchen with its vaulted hand-painted ceiling and exposed rafters. Toast to a meal fit for a king in the dramatically elegant Dining Room before retiring to the relaxing Lounge for a nightcap. End the perfect evening with a peaceful slumber in one of the many stylish Guestrooms.
After settling into your new surroundings, it won’t be long before the great outdoors invites you to explore the evergreen wonders of the parkland. Ramble around the lavish grounds of the historic home with its sprawling flowering gardens or wander further afield to the back garden of the Killarney National Park where a variety of activities await.
