The Phoenicia Malta

Travel Talk with Ed Finn in association with Click and Go Holidays

Saturday, 14 December 2024 - 10 minutes

Malta’s iconic Art Deco hotel, The Phoenicia Malta, is perfectly located in Floriana beside the main gates of the nation’s Unesco World Heritage citadel capital, Valletta.  Ed Finn chatted to General Manager Robyn Pratt after enjoying a wonderful Christmas stay at one of the Leading Hotels of the World.  A favourite place to stay for many famous visitors to Malta over the years, it is a destination in itself, as well as a five-star hotel with character and full facilities including gardens, pools (indoor and out), and a spa.

As the General Manager of The Phoenicia Malta, Robyn brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role. Her illustrious career has taken her across the globe, holding key positions at both regional and international levels in Australia and Europe.  Before coming to Malta, Robyn served as the Vice President for Operational Innovation within the Starwood Hotels group, where she spearheaded the innovation and change management process for an impressive 240 hotels worldwide.

Her success in this role led to her appointment as Vice President of Lifestyle and Luxury Brands for Starwood Hotels Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, further solidifying her expertise in the luxury hospitality market.

The main restaurant, Contessa serves a superb breakfast as well as seasonal lunch, festive brunch and dinner menus offering the likes of lamb Provencal, or fresh local fish. There’s also a bistro-style restaurant offering excellent steak frites (amongst other things), and of course English afternoon tea in the Palm Court is a local favourite for that special occasion.

Breakfast is a marvellous spread with all the usual five-star options as well as local cheeses, delicious ham carved straight from the bone, herring and smoked fish, salads and capers, and honey direct from the honeycomb. Eggs come anyway you want, from omelettes to eggs Benedict, along with other à la carte options like porridge (dairy or plant-based) or crushed avocado on toast.

The Phoenicia Malta with its stunning decor, great cuisine and magnificent gardens is also a popular choice for local and international weddings

Ed enjoyed a wonderful stay at The Phoenicia Malta and the bottomless festive brunch was really special.  The hotel is a destination in itself and St John's Co-Cathedral which houses the famous Caravaggio's is only a 10 minute walk from the hotel.  Ed flew to Malta on the new Aer Lingus flight from Dublin and his trip was planned in consultation with Click and Go Holidays, experts for travels to Malta.  www.clickandgo.com
